The Best Time of Day to Take Real Estate Photos
September 28, 2026 · 4 min read
Timing can matter as much as the camera. Here's how to plan a shoot around the sun.
Exteriors
East-facing homes look best in the morning; west-facing homes in the afternoon. North and south facing homes are more flexible; avoid harsh midday light when you can.
Interiors
Mid-morning to mid-afternoon gives steady daylight. Avoid times when sun beams hit the floor directly, which creates hot spots.
Twilight
About 15 to 30 minutes after sunset. If the timing doesn't work, a day-to-dusk edit can create the effect from a daytime photo, labeled as altered.
